Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

License suspension of dead beat dad.

My ex owes over $25,000 in back child support. Is there a way I can petition to have his license suspended? We went to court about 2 yrs. ago and he was put in jail til he paid. In 4 days he paid all $15,000 and has never paid since. I have a idea of the town he lives in but can not find him. He has nothing in his name that I can find. I know his license and social security numbers, but this has not helped. I can not afford a private investigator to find him.

Re: License suspension of dead beat dad.

There is a mechanism to suspend a driver's license, however

it is cumbersome. The language of the statute requires that

you set up a payment schedule and then they do not meet the

payment schedule. The problem is what to do if you cannot get

a payment schedule put in place because they are unavailable.

To be honest, I have not tried this enforcement option because

of the requirement of a prior payment schedule and the inability

to get one in place. This is not to say it cannot be done though.

I hope this helps.
