Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I am no longer close with my adopted father and he is not being cooperative in giving me my original adoption papers, is there any way to get them from him??? I don't know where to start.

You can go to the county where the original adoption took place, and if sealed, petition the court to release the file to you, if you are now an adult.
If you are over 18, you can go on-line and through the State of Texas website to get a copy of your original birth certficate.
There is an open adoption record that allows adoptees for a minimal fee to order a copy of their original birth certificate. I was adopted and it was easy to do.
I thought I had a file on this but I can't find it right now. So just google it and look around. I've found it less than a month ago. You might look on my blog. Start on my website www.familylaw4u.com and look on my website for my blog.
You can also go to court if you are over 18 and ask to open your adoption file. Some judges don't like to do it. I encountered such a judge even though my cancer doctor insisted it was vital to my cancer treatment!
FYI: I am an example a nightmare birth family! I am very happy to be adopted! Before you try to find your birth family you might want to talk to me to be prepared for the horrors you might discover! Even though I was in my late 40's and a family law attorney I was ill prepared for the disfunctional and abusive group of liars & misfits I located.
