Thanksgiving visitation is superior to the usual 1st, 3rd, and 5th week-end visits.
So read the Thanksgiving wording in your decree.
If the child was with a parent for the Thanksgiving holiday and if it was not that parents normal ordered weekend with the child, and if the order states that holiday custody time is to end at say, 6 pm Sunday, then, the child needs to be returned to the other parent at 6 pm on Sunday, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parents.
You need to read your order for this information.

And, if custody issues like these continue to be a problem, you can always go back to court to modify the existing order and have the holiday drop-off time end at the time the child's school resumes - say Monday am, if they are in school, etc.
