Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I made the mistake of signing an agreement for which I cannot afford. My ex wife is now contacting her lawyer because I do not make enough money to pay the bills she requested I pay in the divorce. There are no children involved in this divorce. Our only son is 29 and has a family of his own. She talked me into signing a Waiver and it allowed them to make the decisions without me in court. I now cannot afford the payments they had me agree to pay which was her car note for two years or until she lived with someone. She also asked for money for remodeling the home I gave her in the divorce, pay her car insureance for three years, and the list goes on and on on what she asked me for. I only agreed to pay her car note in person with her..bu..As of yet I have not recieved a copy of the divorce which was final on Nov 6th 2009. I am now worried what may or may not be in those papers as my ex wife contacted me when I could not pay her car note for December due to loss of earnings at work, and claims she will throw me in jail for non payment of a judgement. Can she do this and how do I find out what she put in the legal papers with her lawyer if I was not represented due to the waiver she convinced me to sign. She told me she would not give me a divorce if I did not sign the waiver. So I did. Could this have possibly been a mistake? Any advice you can give me would sincerely be appreciated. I'm worried about my rights now that she is threatening again. Can I ask for a modification in Judgement if my earnings have changed?

Yes, you have made a HUGE mistake!!!!!!!
You can go and order a cert. copy of the FINAL DECREE OF DIVORCE. It costs $1 per page. They accept cash and credit cards -- no personal checks.
If the FINAL DECREE was signed by the Judge on November 6, 2009, then you are going to have some trouble modifying it!

I don't know why you expect to receive any paperwork in the mail. In Harris County, you don't usually get a copy of the documents from the District Clerk's office.
You obviously did not hire an attorney. Unfortuantely, now you are going to pay for it.
I suspect that this is going to cost a lot more than if you'd hire an attorney to represent you.
In summary, in order to get a divorce -- NOW YOU ARE REALLY GOING TO PAY!
