Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

marriage recognized?

I was married in Jamica in 1998. we never registered our marriage in the US. Have been separated for last 3 yrs. Do I need to file for a divorce? Is this marriage recognized in the US if not registered?

Re: marriage recognized?

Texas law recognizes marriages from other countries if they were valid marriages in that other country. Therefore, if the marriage was valid when it was performed, you need a divorce to legally break the ties with your spouse.

I suggest you consult a lawyer to discuss the facts of your particular case.
