If you get married, do you assume your spouses debt? and if you do, can you file a pre-nup to avoid your spouse from being liable for your debt.

If your wife signs a promissory note (and you don't), it's not your debt. Ever. You aren't personally liable for the debt, and you can't be sued for it.
The exception is a debt for "necessaries" - groceries or medical care.
Pre-nuptial agreements are a whole other discussion.
