Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

We were married for 20 years. Our non-contested divorce was final on November 30, 2010. I did not have my own lawyer. Although we (i think) split finances 50/50, I did not get alimony. I worked as a school teacher all but 4 yrs of our marriage, which during those 4 years I stayed home to start our family and stay home with our young children. We both agreed that I could stop working in June of 2010. Then we divorced in November. Am I entitled to alimony and can I go back to court to get it?

Since you were married for over ten years you could have obtained alimony in your divorce. In Texas, alimony only lasts for 3 years unless you or a child that you are caring for is disabled to the point that you cannot seek employment.

As to whether you can go back to court to get alimony, I suggest you consult an attorney to review your divorce with you and advise you on this point.
