Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

A mediation for custody is coming up on Monday, May 9. The parents who are divorced or being divorced are in agreement for joint custody. However, a year ago, the judge mandated supervised visits for the father with the grandmother (his mother) in charge of supervising. On mediation, can they lift this off as soon as the meeting is over? It has been almost a year and it is hard to have a life with this kind of situation. Does this agreement to lift supervisory still take a long time or can a memo be sent to the judge about it?

Generally, you can't change a court order by mediating an agreement. A court order is changed by another court order (signed by a judge).

Often there is a lag time between (1) mediating a settlement and (2) actually getting an order signed. I could tell you stories.

Regardless of what you agree to, a judge has to make a finding (in writing, in an order) that the new arrangement (i.e., no supervision) is in the child's best interest.
