Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Can a Mexican marriage be disolved under American court laws and do alimony and settlements apply? I am married to a Mexican man and would like to know if I can have the divorce go through here in an American divorce court and can American judgements be applied to it? We have been living here in Houston,TX for 10 years. My husband legally entered the USA on tourist's papers then filed for legal residence papers witch he now has. I read somewhere online that for a USA divorce to occur, I first have to get the Mexican marriage inscribed or registered here in the USA...Is that correct?

If you have lived in Texas for at least 6 months and in the same county for 90 days, you file for divorce in Texas.

You don't need to register the marriage in Texas.

Texas courts often divorce people living in the US illegally.

Texas law would apply. Texas cannot deal with any property in Mexico. Texas cannot tell another country what to do.

Any family law attorney who has practiced law in Texas for several years should be aware of what you need to do.
