Re: Minor name change.

The procedure for change of name of your son is as follows:

Firstly, make an Affidavit before a local Magistrate. After affirming the Affidavit, publish the fact of the name change in a local newspaper. As you are residing in UAE , you also have to abide by any special local law and intimate the office of the Consulate General for ensuring there is no problem in passport/visa issues.

For change of name, the most important thing is the public notice. You, as mother of your minor son, swear an affidavit and get it either notarised or attested by any Magistrate. Use that affidavit to release a public notice in the local newspaper. Since the child is also a US citizen, by birth, I would recommend publishing a public notice in a local paper of city where he was born. Original affidavit, you will retain with yourself. A copy of the same may be given to the School, where the child is having his education. In case of any question, please do not hesitate to call, write or email.
