Assuming you live in Harris county, you can go to the District Clerk's web site, look up your case, and see a copy of any orders that were entered. If the judge just ruled on the record but did not sign an order yet, just look for a docket entry. You can also order a transcript of the court's order by calling the court reporter. If you ask for just the order of the court, the cost of the transcript will be around $85.

You can file a motion for new trial. You will probably get one, but you have to file within 30 days of when the court rendered it's order.

I'm sorry you've had to endure the loss of a loved one and a family court trial all at the same time. From now on, though, keep in mind that there is no excuse for missing a trial date without first notifying the court IN ADVANCE and trying to get a continuance.

Good luck!!
