Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
If you are a mom of 7 in an physically/mentally abusive relationship with your husband what can you do? No job, and everything is under his name. He beats his spouse and children. Is there anything that could help?

There are many battered women shelters and non-profits in Texas. If she lives in Houston, she just needs to check the phone book, call United Way or look on-line.
She can file for divorce and ask for temporary orders. However, only the Judge can remove him from the home. Normally from the date the divorce is filed it takes approx. 4 weeks to get in front of a judge for temporary orders.
She needs to be safe. She needs counseling and support. Please encourage her to call around to battered women organizations for support.
I highly recommend PATRICIA BUSHMAN at 713-807-9405. Talk to JESSICA in her office and tell her that FRAN sent you. She will need to come up with a small deposit to pay filing fees, service on husband and some of Pat's legal fees. In Court, Pat can ask that the husband be ordered to pay Pat's legal fees since he controls the community property.
