How can I get my mother properly mentally evaluated if she has already been taken by police to emergency room to be evaluated. She was released only after a couple of hours and I do not feel that was enough time to properly mentally evaluate her or do proper testing. Since being released she is still out of control and acting like she has a mental illness.

During a lucid time, try to discuss the incident with her to see if she will cooperate with testing. Many times a physical problem is evident through mental or emotional outbursts. It may be necessary to file a petition in Probate Court for guardianship if you believe that she is incapable of caring for herself.
