Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My mother and I have talked, and we have decided to grant me legal guardianship of my 15 yr old sister. I live in Texas. What documents would I need, and what steps do we take to get this taken care of?

There are two routes to take. My first question regards your father. Your sister's father will have to be provided notice of either proceeding, even though your mother is in agreement. You can go through probate court to obtain a guardianship of her person and property. Or you can become a conservator of your sister, through family court. Which is the easier, less expensive option is affected by what prior proceedings have taken place. It is possible that it can be streamlined, but without more information, it is hard to say. Take whatever court orders currently exist, and sit down with an attorney in your county to discuss the best option. Good luck.
