Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I am the mother of a soon to be 2-year old son and I was arrested and sent to jail for leaving him at home asleep for about an hour while my boyfriend and I ran to the store. I made a mistake and right now am willing to do just about anything to get my son back. This is the very first time I have ever been in any legal trouble including even getting pulled over and given a warning for anything. I was bailed out and now I have a court date with CPS and another criminal court date as well. I do have a court-appointed lawyer, but no one is giving me any information what I need to do or what is going to happen. What could the sentences be in the criminal court for this and is there anything I can do to not be sent to prison? I do understand it is a felony but I don't know anything about the law because I've never done anything like this before. I don't want to go to prison because I want to work to get my son back since he is in a foster home right now. I have given him everything since the day he was born and right now I am not sure what is going on. I have done some researching but have found nothing on the matter at all.

Dealing with the CPS is like dealing with the Nazi party. Your best strategy is to roll over and play dead.
When they give you a "parenting plan," follow it. Do what they want you to.
I'd tell you to fight them, but the Judges tend to go along with whatever CPS wants, regardless of the evidence or the circumstances.
Be polite, say yessir, and do what they want you to. Say you're sorry a lot.
