In Houston, Houston Volunteer Lawyers phone number is 713-228-0732. There is also Lone Star Legal. DO NOT CALL 411 AND ASK FOR LEGAL AIDE -- that is a company is CA!!!!!
I charge $2 per minute to sit and talk to you! Perhaps you can afford that.
There is also UH law school, South Texas College of Law legal clinic and Texas South Law School legal aid clinic. I don't know if they are accepting cases since the law school semester is almost over. They might take cases for the summer semester.
If you don't work, he would have to pay you child support if you have custody of the children.
If you have been married over 10 years, you might be entitled to spousal support to help you get back on your feet.
The Houston Bar Assocation (www.hba.org - I think) has a great free booklet on line - under family law that you can read - it's 45 pages so you might not want to print it out.
www.familylaw4u.com -- under faq - I have a bunch of links to free information for you.
Good luck!
