You have to hire an attorney. Child custody disputes are too complicated to navigate on your own. I am very familiar with the courts in Dallas County and can tell you that even though they try to be helpful to self-represented litigants, such as yourself, they have to hold you to the same rules as if you had an attorney.

If you don't think you can afford an attorney, please contact the Texas Legal Services Center (www.tlsc.org) and they will refer you to a good local attorney who will help you for a substantial discount. You will still have to pay some legal fees, but they will be far less than standard rates, if you meet TLSC's income eligibility requirements.

Good luck!!
