Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Non Custodial Parent Paying Child Support, Yet Housing Children
I have a friend of three children from age 6 to 3, he is paying child support on a weekly basis as well as carrying insurance for his children per court order. The children's mother has custody per order however a month ago she dropped them off with their father, stating that she was not able to care for them and has no place to live. He is still paying child support for children that are now living with him (along with his other child from a previous relationship and his girlfriends two children). He contacted his child support case worker to get his case reviewed they gave him a number to legal aide and advised him to apply. He did so however they sent him a letter back stating that he was denied, and they could not assist him because they were basically ''too busy''. My friend feels that because he is male that no one is giving him a fair chance. We have done multiple searches for legal aide only to get nowhere. My friend truly has no money due to supporting 6 children and paying child support. We are truly at a lost and are worried the longer we wait could cause a negative impact. Is there any place that my friend can truly get legit help or a place to start to get custody of his children, and help with his child support?

He can also call the state of Texas or contact a local Father's for Equal Rights group for assistance.
Yes the free legal aide groups are swamped.
The Office of the Texas A G's main job is to get child support started. They don't handle change of custody.
Ask around and see if you can find a family law attorney that will take a payment plan. Many do.
Check the t.v. guide or free papers - like the Greensheet or Thrifty Nickel.
Beware of people that advertise forms over the internet or 1-800 numbers in publications. Some of the forms are junk!
Good luck!
