Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Non-marital custody

My son has lived with me for the past 5 yrs. I recently moved to another city in Texas roughly 500 miles away from his mother. We were never married and hasn't been--name removed--part of his life much. Can she legally make me move back to the city where she lives and/or take my son away from me?

Re: Non-marital custody

It is not likely that a judge would move a child to the other parent's possession after the child has been in one home for 5 years.

It would be wise to consult with a lawyer about having court orders entered defining your authority as a parent and the mother's times of possession.
