Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Non-parent trying to get custody of a 15yr old

A few years ago, a 12yr girl that I mentored lost her mom and was sent to juvenile. Her sister got custody of her, but now that she is being released, she cannot care for her. She, now 15, her sister, and I would all like for me to have custody. What do we need to do? Her sister is very concerned that she is no longer responsible for her in any way.

You would have to get an order of the court by filing a Suit Affecting Parent Child Relationship. This would likely get you full, 100% custody perhaps with visitation to the sister -- if that is what you and the girl want. Good Luck.
