Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Non-resident citation return?
I am currently going through a divorce and custody matter in the state of Texas. I live in Georgia. I have been attempting to learn all I can about the law and handle this whole mess on my own...I can not afford to hire legal representation because of my husband. I need to know what it means when on the website corresponding with my cause no. it says Non resident citation return? I have been trying to get this whole matter transferred to the state of Georgia, and I filed a petition saying such, but I can't find out what exactly this phrase means in the legal library. Can someone please help me with this?

Re: Non-resident citation return?
Courts of one state cannot transfer a divorce to another state so you're looking for something non-existent.
Re: Non-resident citation return?
The notice about non-resident return means that the notice of process was served on you, the non-resident.
If the child resides with you, and jurisdiction belongs in Georgia, then you need to file the proper pleadings in the Texas court to that effect. It may result in the Texas case being dismissed. You may want to consult Georgia and Texas free legal service agencies to see if they can assist you.
