Subpoena the cell phone bills. If they have detailed billing, you can see each number called or texted. Smart people don't use SMS texting: they use Skype, AOL, Microsoft messenger, yahoo etc for texting, which the phone can't help you trace. And they use Skype or other services for phone calls, which also can't be traced by phone records.
