Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Need papers filed in Harris County

My 7 year old step daughter has been placed in our home after her father was charged with 3 counts of agg sex assault of a child. In December she will be a resident of Howard County Tx as she will have been here for 6 months. We would like to file for custody, the original custody was handled in Harris county so we need to have it moved to Howard County. I have an atty here who is willing to handle the custody on a payment plan as my funds are limited. What I need is a Harris county atty who would be willing to file the papers to move the custody to Howard county, and that's all. I have spoken with numerous atty's there but I can not afford $1800.00 up front, and then $250.00 an hour there after, which is the cheapest I was able to find. I am not looking for anyone to fight for custody in harris county, I am simply looking for someone there who will file the papers to move things to Howard county.I am caught in the middle, I make too much for legal aid, but not enough to afford an atty, I don't qualify for Harris countys' pro bono program because I am not a resident of Harris county. I am afraid that this little girl may have to go back to her dad if we don't get custody soon. He's done enough to this little girl. Please Help.

If you call my office tomorrow afternoon, I'll try to find someone to help you.

By tomorrow afternoon, I should have a price.

I think $1,800 is high. I'll see if we can do better.

Re: Need papers filed in Harris County

I checked with another attorney in the office. Her question is -- Why can't your attorney in Howard County file the Motion to transfer and the petition to modify in Harris County?

It seems to us that would be the easiest thing to do.

If he refuses, you could retain our services here in Harris County.

To file a motion to transfer and a petition to modify would be a deposit of $500 plus filing fees and service fees.

If there are "complications" that arise then it would be more money.

After the deposit is paid, we would enter into a weekly payment plan with you.

Call me for more information.
