If a parent walks out of their childs life for how long do they have to be gone for to lose their custody and rights?

You need to sit down with an experienced family law attorney and discuss your situation.

In Texas, there is no "set time" that a parent loses their custody and parental rights.

The Texas Family Code is available on-line so you can certainly read it. You will find that there is no "magic" law that covers your question. Sorry!

You need to talk to an attorney and discuss your particular case. You will need to "build a case" and present it to a judge.
