parental rights

i have raised my girlfriends daughter with her for the last eight years. She knows me as dad.We have now split. I have not adopted her not on the birth certificate. Is there anything i can do to secure visitation and more importantly some rights. The daughter was born in new mexico we now live in texas

The matter, if there is one, would be handled in a Texas court through a proceeding known as Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship. Truthfully, the law does not provide you with any rights. Your girlfriend may be willing to allow you contact and/or access, just to be generous.
