Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My partner and I are looking to adopt a baby. We have a friend who is pregnant and doesn't want the baby. She asked us if we would adopt it. We said yes. We don't want to go through and adoption agency and don't have alot of money for a lawyer. Is there any other way to handle this or not so expensive ways?

If you have an agreement with the mother, then you do not need to go through an agency. You can do a private adoption. You definitely should have an attorney, though. The paperwork needs to be perfect and there are certain things that you might pay for that would be a felony so you must have legal advice. Also, you need to deal with the issue of the father. He must agree along with the mother. If you can't find him, you may need to serve him by publication and the court will appoint someone to find him and represent him and you will be asked to pay for that attorney. It may also be possible to avoid his consent through the paternity registry. Good luck to you.
