Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

paternity and child support

when my daughter was born her mother had just gotten divorced within the previous 9 mos so the hospital wouldnt put my name on the birth cert. her ex wouldnt sign over paternity rights so we were instructed by the da's office to file for child support. now they are saying that she is responsible for paying 4000 dollars for dna testing. we cant afford that so we tried to back out, but they say that they will file charges on her for filing a false report. what should we do

I am guessing that you mean the AG office, not the DA office. Who charges $4000 for a dna test? That is crazy -- you can go to almost any lab that conducts dna testing, and get it done for much less. You need to petition the court to establish your paternity, and then conservatorship, visitation and support.
