Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I need paternity rights
When my daughter was born 3 years ago, my ex-girlfriend did not put my name on the birth certificate. I'm at her mercy when it comes to seeing my daughter. She will only accept cash when I want to help her finacially. Something where there is no paper trail back. I can't take her out of the my ex-girlfriends home, so perfroming a paternity test on my own is out. Will the courts help me?

Re: I need paternity rights
You have the option of filing a suit affecting the parent child relationship (SAPCR) to establish paternity, visitation/possession rights, and child support obligations. I suggest you contact an attorney to discuss this matter further and to assist you in the actual filing and court processes.
Re: I need paternity rights
Currently you are at her mercy because there are no orders establishing that you are the father. You need to file a paternity action to obtain those orders. You will likely pay child support but also have your visitation court ordered.

Yes the courts will help you - and you do need help. If all financial aid was in cash you have no paper trail. I suggest you call one of us for help - or if you live in another part of the state - try calling the local bar association for a referral.
