Never just stop paying it. You are entitled to a reimbursement up to the amount you can prove it costed you to have them in your possession. However, there is an eaier way. Once you have the children living with you for at least 6 months, excluding any normal visitation periods, you can bring a suit to be designated primary custodian and request child support orderd to be paid by her.
