Here is the harsh reality...it's not pretty...

You were ordered to pay $xxx per month. You did not pay it. Therefore, you are in contempt of court. Why you did not pay it is not an excuse. Unemployment is not an excuse for not paying your child support.

You are ordered to pay $XXX per month until a judge changes the amount.

What should you do? Sell everything you own and pay the child support. Borrow the money from friends and/or family and pay the child support. Keep proof of what you tried to do to raise the money. Go to the bank and try to borrow money. Borrow money against your credit cards. Pawn or sell everything you own. The judge expects your child support to be paid before you pay rent or before you eat! If you have nice clothes, sell them. If you have a nice car, sell it and drive a junker. Your kids come first in the judge's eyes.

If you don't pay the child support you owe, then the judge can send you to jail for at least 6 months.

The only good news, is while you are in jail, you still owe child support at $XXX per month. However, you cannot be jailed for not paying this child support because you cannot work while in jail.

However, the moment you get out of jail, you still owe $XXX per month in child support and you can be jailed for not paying that child support.

I'm sorry there is no good news when it comes to child support.

You can read my blog about child support. It is the debt that never goes away. It just grows and grows -- plus the 6% interest!
