Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Paying child support if the Father is not the Biological father

I have a friend who is in desparate need of advice. He married his wife not knowing the paternity of the child. Four years later he does an at-home DNA test (which we know can not be used in court) and finds out the child is not his. He's in the beginning stages of filing for divorce but is unsure how the Texas law treats cases like this. He is willing to continue to accept that child as his own but he doesn't want to end up paying child support for a child that is not biologically his. Now, he did sign the birth certificate so that puts him in a bind with that child. Is there any advice he can get as far as his wife putting him on child support and will he be able to have any custody?

He needs to consult an attorney.

It's too complicated to discuss via email.

He needs to retain an attorney in the county where the divorce is going to be filed.

Good luck!
