Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Payments on unreimbursed medical/dental expenses

Our standard divorce decree requires me to pay 1/2 of medical/dental expenses not covered by insurance. In the past 4 years I have not received a billing/or written statement regarding balances due from my ex. Now, I have been notified that I owe a substantial amount and he is requiring a lump sum payment or I will be in contempt of court. Is there anything that I can do? Also, we pay my ex to provide insurance on my son -- but his wife is carrying the insurance on him. How often can there be a modification of child support payments? Thanks so much!

Child Support can be modified when there is a change of circumstances -- at the most once a year.

Keep proof of everything you received (envelope with postage date). They can certainly file contempt on you. If so, I strongly advise hiring an attorney. Since you just got 4 years of bills, I would immediately begin making a monthly payment that you can afford and make a payment each month.

I hope this helps.
