Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

permission from ex-husband

My son wants to go on a mission trip to Mexico with his youth group (I would not be going). My ex-husband will not sign the permission form. My son has a passport. I have sole conservatorship. Can he go on the trip if the permission form only has my signature?

You're the one with sole conservatorship. What do you need the father's permission for? Sign the paper and send your son on his trip. May God be with him and bring him home.

I disagree with James -- sorry James!

My daughter could not take a cruise that passed through Mexican waters unless I gave permission. I also had sole custody. She was 17-1/2 at the time.

The policy of the trip organizer and the airline determines what you need.

Also, you need to find out what they require in the permission slip. I recall that I used a form supplied by the cruise line and had it notarized.

You can certainly try to only have your signature but many companies will not transport a minor into a new country without BOTH parents signatures.

Let me know what happens -- I'd be very interested to know if I'm wrong!
