If a person marries someone that owes back childsupport and we have assets together will my property be affected

Might be. Depends on the character of the property and whether the property is exempt.
Your separate property can't be touched, but a joint bank account can be seized or garnished.
If the arrearage has been confirmed already and he's on a payment plan, you probably don't have much to worry about except that a refund on a jointly filed tax return will very likely be diverted to pay for child support.
