Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

my sons girlfriend purchased a lab for him on his birthday. She helped him bring ''Bruce'' and all his pet supplies to our home. She told him it was a birthday gift.

Over the next few days, she wanted ''Bruce'' back. My son declined, now we're being sued for ownership. What should we do? The day the girlfriend came to our home she made a big fuss in front of our home, so I called police. Police arrived heard both sides of our stories and left the dog w/us. I also asked for a criminal trespass to be issued against the girlfriend and it was issued on the spot.
