Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Power of Attorney or Guardianship
My 13 year old granddaughter lives with myself and my boyfriend. The power of attorney my daughter gave for her daughter has expired. We want to adopt my granddaughter and have the mothers aggrement. What kind of power of attorney do we need untill the adoption can be completed? And are there forms for both the power of attorney and adoption that we can fill out and file on our own? We really can't afford a lawyer but want this to be resolved for our granddaughter soon. Thank you for any help you can give.
We have lived in Texas since Nov.2007. Out of her 13 years she has lived with me for about 10. Her mother isn't able or intrest in raising her.We would like the child to feel safe and secure in her life and help her plan her future, she is doing well in school for the most part and is a cadet member in the Civil Air Patrol.

Re: Power of Attorney or Guardianship
You need more than a power of attorney for an adoption, and unless he is dead, you will need the father's agreement as well.
You really need an attorney. If you can't afford one you should look into the local legal aid providers.
Glad your granddaughter is doing well and good luck!
