Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Power of Attorney

I have an 18 year old son that has been admitted to a pyschiatric hospital for treatment. He is mentally unable to sign documents or even speak for himself concerning any treatment or medications administered to him. Do I as a parent and the one in whom he was living with have any legal recourse? Thank you.

Re: Power of Attorney

Since he is an adult you need to consult with an attorney about guardianship.

As an adult he is now responsible for his own actions and decisions. Even if they are not in his best interests, as an adult he is now legally able to make those decisions for himself.

Just because he lives with you and you are his mother, is no longer enough.

Also, I'm sure the hospital staff has dealt with this sort of issue often and they would be a wonderful resource for you.
