Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

How can I prevent my ex-girlfriend from moving away 733 miles away with my 2 and a half year old son?

We were never married and when we split up we never went to court to hash out custody or visitation agreements. We have been amicable with each other about seeing our 2 year old son and for the most part we split time. When we broke up, I left the apartment we resided in, and paid rent still as she couldn't afford it so she'd have a place of her own to live and my son's day to day life wouldn't change. She started talking to a guy last month whom she dated in Junior High and he lives in El Paso, TX. I reside in Katy, TX along with every family member that my son has. (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.) Everyone is here. It is a distance of 733 miles from here to there and is a 10 hour drive. She has explained to me that she already loves this man and it seems very evident that in the near future she will leave for El Paso. This man is in the army and his term ends in May of 2018 and she says she will come back to Katy then, but I'm terrified at the thought of being away from my son for that long even if it's only temporary. What can I do?

You should file a petition for paternity immediately. And get her served as soon as possible. That will tie her, and the case, your county of residence.
