Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Pro Se Special Appearance help

I am a Georgia resident going to school in Alabama. My husband is a Texas resident, in the military, stationed in Louisiana. Neither one of us has lived in TX since 1994; Georgia was our last marital residence. I filed for divorce on 7/8/02, and he was served on 7/30. Service was delayed cuz he was in the field until 7/17; was back at his apt in LA for 3 days, and then went to TX, found an attorney, and filed his own petition for divorce on 7/25. I was served via certified mail on 8/6/02. On 8/15, at a hearing in GA, a judge set my residency and jurisdiction over the divorce and over my husband in GA. I have prepared a Motion to Dismiss on the basis that venue & jurisdiction in TX are improper, and combined it with my answer to his petition (per TRCP 120a). I am about ready to send it via FedEx to the court, but would really like someone to proofread it to make sure I've done it right; and would also like to discuss obtaining an attorney who is willing to take payments or wait until a court orders my husband to pay the bill, to take my case from here.

You need to contact the Bar Association in the County of your residence and ask for a lawyer referral, or contact the Ala. State Bar in Montgomery and ask for a referral.
