Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I'm in the process of getting a divorce. I am now living in Texas and my soon to be ex is living in Virginia. We have made an agreement to divide the property, but we are still hashing out an alimony agreement. Since I'm now living in Texas, what states laws should I follow?

You follow the laws of the state where the divorce was filed. I assume if you were living in Virginia that is where the divorce was filed and you will complete it under the laws of Virginia.

If the divorce hasn't been filed yet and you have lived in Texas for at least 6 months and in the county where you wish to file for at least 3 months you could file here. If you are expecting alimony you may want to do a little research. Texas is not an alimony state.
