How long after a divorce is final do you have to pay a settlement and surrender property?

The Final Decree of Divorce should include this information.

If the wording in the Final Decree of Divorce states that the property is awarded to the person in possession at time of divorce, then whoever has the property owns it and the other party loses all ownership rights in that property.

I agree with what Ms. Bronstein says re: ownership interest in the property. However, you need to consult your decree as it probably contains provisions concerning where and when and under what conditions the property should have been surrendered to your ex spouse. Since your decree is a binding court order, you could be held in contempt of court for failing to comply. Feel free to contact me in the future with any other legal matters.
