Property rights

My boyfriend and I have recently financed a car. It is in both of our names. We are not together any longer. My question is can he take it away from me or report it stolen being that his name is on there first and mine is second? It is primarily mine and we bought it for me, but he is threatening to get the police involved to take it away from me. Just to be spiteful. Is that legal can he do that? I am the one who pays the payment but it is in both of our names. What are my rights?

Since your name is on the title, the police will not charge you with theft.

You need to get the car refinanced in your name AND get him to sign over the title to you.
