Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Protection of assets

If I marry a man that has a 16, almost 17 year old cocaine addict (living with his mother), can I be held liable financially for anything that child does illegally or otherwise. We do have a pre-nup to separate my assets from his.

You also need to do a post-nup AFTER the marriage. That confirms that you both intended to keep your assets separate.

Re: Protection of assets

As long as you don't adopt the child, you can't be held responsible for his wrongdoings. You aren't the child's parent. You can do a pre-nup if you want, or you can be careful not to co-mingle the separate property that you bring to the marriage.
