It is an important process, and you need to use an attorney to do it correctly.

The divorce decree does not effectuate the separation of the retirement/pension money alone. This is an order directed to the Plan Administrator ordering the release/separation of the funds. If it does not meet the Plan's requirements, the Plan will reject it.
