Do I need to have a QDRO order separate from my divorce papers or can I incorporate a request for a QDRO within the final decree

You can do it either way but the most efficient method is to have a separate order because that limits what the plan administrator needs to read. Generally, the human resources section of the employer's office or the plan administrator will send you a form order that will speed the process.

Drafting QDRO's is a bit complicated. I suggest you hire an attorney to assist you.
