If he is the adjudicated father, he has the same rights as you do. You need to go to court and establish child support, which will also establish conservatorship and possession & access. For now, based on what you posted, he could just show up and grab the child.

You will need an attorney to get this done quickly and correctly. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will do it for you for free, but they are very slow. A private attorney will charge you at least $2,000, but if you start getting child support 1 year sooner, the child support will more than pay the legal fees back.

If you can't afford an attorney, contact Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas. If they can't help you, please call the Texas Legal Services Center (www.tlsc.org) and they will refer you to a good local attorney who will handle your case at a significant discount.
