Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

question about paternity issue

I have recently been sued for child support by a lady for a child that was unknown to me until now. I have calculated days between the date of what I believe is the conception date and the date of birth of the child and I am coming up with 242 days. According to all the info I can gather, a full term child is generally determined to be between 252-280 days. I have done some investigation and cannot find if she had sexual relations prior to our relations. The 10 day gap bothers me. Would it be in my best interest to pursue paternity testing or would it be futile for me to do so?

Thank you.

Re: question about paternity issue

If there is any doubt about whether you are the father of this child, then for your sake and the child's, you should insist on a paternity suit. If the court finds that you are the father of the child or you conceed that you are the father, then the court may calculate retroactive child support back to the birth of the child. You should also seek legal council to assist you in this matter.

Good Luck.
