Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I received a letter from my ex husband's attorney and it says: Re: Cause No. XXX ITIO: Children's names, Dear Ms. Smith, Mr. Smith has signed an Affadavit for Voluntary Relinquishment of Parental Rights. Do you want me to file a motion with the court to terminate his rights? Thank you,

Why is he asking me this? If my ex wants to sign away his parental rights, and signed the affadavit to do so, shouldn't his attorney just file it with the court? Do I have to respond to this letter? What will happen if I don't respond to the letter?

A man can't just "give up" his parental rights; a Judge has to sign an order.

I think the lawyer is asking you if you would object to your ex-husband's parental rights being terminated.

No, you don't have to respond to the letter.
