Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

i recently got custody of my son and when my ex and i were younger her parents convinced us to put mothers last name as primary for insurance purposes. It doesn't matter what the last name is when it comes to insurance. i was just wondering if i can change my sons last name to mine since i have full custody

You should have done the child's name change at the time you got custody.

You can change his name but you need a judge to approve it.

You will need to serve your ex with notice of the petition to change the child's name or she can sign the paperwork approving it.
