Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I recently relocated to texas from france. i have a custody decree from a french court regarding child custody and support which stipulates the child's residence is with me in the u.s. and has visits with the other parent in france 2 times per year. i have had it translated into english, do i need to go to court here in the u.s. again or do i just register the order so it is valid?

The Texas Family Code says that a custody order from a foreign country is treated the same as a custody order from another state.

Register the order through the District Clerk; a lawyer can help you with the process. You have to include an affidavit of the other party's last address and you have to swear that, to the best of your knowledge, the order hasn't been modified.

Unfortunately, the District Clerk will charge around $288 for the filing fee, since it's considered a "new case."
